Early Intervention

Birth to 3 years old

Speech therapy at this age is based on a parent-coaching model (video). This model requires the child's parent to be the active member of the session, with the speech therapist observing, providing education and feedback, and problem-solving with the parent. This service delivery model is considered best practice and is the most recommended service delivery model, because it teaches you, as the parent, how to elicit language and support your child with a hands on approach. Keep in mind that your child's speech therapist may only spend 1-1.5 hours a week with your child, while you spend every day with them. Ask about speech therapy for ESL/ELL.
